Dana has over 255 service hours and works at Winn Dixie 12 hours a week to pay for her clothes, school, insurance and help with groceries. Her father was forced to retire when he was laid off at 62 and could not find another job. Dana and her twin brother both obtained jobs to help support the family when they turned 16.
She has extensive school activities and outstanding grades. Dana maintained her grades even though she had emergency surgery to remove a basketball size tumor wrapped around her major internal organs. Then she underwent a second surgery a year later to correct a mouth deformity.
Dana’s application is a prime example of a hard working family that has pulled together to survive without any government aid, however, there is not enough funds to pay for school and she may not receive full Pell Grant funding because her parents do have jobs.
